Cloud Security Alliance plans RSA summit

IT and security executives will get a chance to hear about some of the latest developments in cloud security at the Cloud Security Alliance’s CSA Summit 2011, to be held Feb. 14 at the RSA Conference in San Francisco.

At this year’s summit, CSA will provide updates on progress in several research areas, including security-as-a-service, incident response and its governance, risk management & compliance (GRC) stack, says Jim Reavis, executive director of CSA.

“We think attendees will get a very balanced view of the state of information security within cloud computing today, and the event will advance an IT decision maker’s ability to assess the degree to which cloud is appropriate for their IT needs from a trust and security perspective,” Reavis says.

The event will include an opening keynote by Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce.com, and panel discussions on topics including are “The Future of Cloud Security Technology,” “The CSA Roadmap” and “GRC in the Cloud — Today and Tomorrow.”

The conference gives IT and security executives an opportunity to see what vendors are doing to provide security in cloud services, says Philippe Courtot, CEO and Chairman of Qualys Inc. and another keynote speaker at the conference. With the move to the cloud, the burden of delivering strong security more and more is falling on vendors, Courtot says.

“It’s very important that we [cloud service providers] all sit down together and start to work at essentially making security part of the fabric of what we do,” and the summit is a big part of that effort, Courtot says.
