Director Information Management

CSX Corporation, a Fortune 500 company headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla., is a multi-modal freight transportation company serving customers across North America. Through its primary subsidiary, CSX operates the largest railroad in the eastern United States with operations in 23 states, the District of Columbia and two Canadian provinces. CSX also includes an integrated intermodal company which serves customers with its own truck and terminal operations as well as a dedicated domestic container fleet. Other CSX subsidiaries  provide technology and real estate support to the company.  These subsidiaries combine to allow CSX to deliver efficient freight alternatives to customers in a variety of industries, including coal, chemicals, automobiles, metals, agricultural and forest products, food and consumer goods

Responsibilities

Lead the development, implementation and oversight of a comprehensive information management department that will ensure CSX is compliant with regulatory and legal requirements.  Identify the various methods each department is using to receive, use, store, retrieve and destroy information and records.  Devise a protocol that will protect CSX while providing a useful tool for the end user.

1. Develop a department responsible for promoting sound information management within CSX. 2. Develop, implement and maintain training programs for Department staff, Compliance, Legal, and Information Technology personnel to provide guidance on functional requirements.   3. Establish and lead a steering committee to create the information management policy and retention schedules and provide high-level support. 4. Implement and maintain technology tools that employees can use to efficiently classify, store, retrieve and retain records. 5. Manage corporate information management service supplier relationships. 6. Serve as liaison between information management suppliers including consultants and other service providers and CSX. 7. Decide the duties for each of the five positions that are being created to staff this department. Successful implementation of the various functions will protect CSX from exposure in litigation, provide ease of records management, and reduce the difficulty of storing information in multiple areas.  This department will set and implement standards that will affect exposure to most law suits filed against CSX. This position will be responsible for collecting data from every department within CSX on how all data is managed, then devising the best method for storing, retrieving and destroying paper, electronic, video and audio data in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.  Decisions on managing the various data mediums will have far ranging, long term effects on the company’s success in responding to electronic discovery in litigation, regulatory agency audits, and daily performance by the departments. Responsible for selecting software that will satisfy the records management needs of the company and be compatible with the ability of technology.  This person will be the highest ranking Information Management officer in the company, responsible for setting standards, devising protocol, writing training manuals, and solving disputes within departments when conflicts arise regarding handling of data or records. 

Qualifications

Significant experience in information management required, 10 years preferred. Proven project management, leadership and communication skills. Ability to work effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team. Strong technology background preferred. Litigation experience preferred. Experience supervising employees. Bachelors Degree in Library and Information Science is desired. Certified Records Manager (CRM) preferred.
