I’m in sun-kissed L.A. today, wrapping up some tasks before attending what promises to be an eventful meeting of security minds tomorrow: Security Summit IV, organized by the local chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA).

The event runs from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Universal City Hilton.

Bruce W. McConnell, senior counselor for cybersecurity at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will be a featured speaker. He  was appointed by DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano in 2009  and works closely with the department’s National Protection and Programs Directorate.  In January 2010, McConnell was tasked with leading the department’s Cyber + Strategy Team, which is responsible for developing the overall cybersecurity strategy for DHS, aligned with the national strategy developed by the White House national security staff.

McConnell is a late addition to the schedule, according to the organizers.

The summit is designed to encourage more participation and interaction among three information security constituencies: 1.) business executives, senior business managers and their trusted advisors; (2.) technical IT personnel with responsibility for information systems and the data they contain; and (3) information security practitioners with responsibility for ensuring the security of sensitive information.

The agenda looks pretty good, and includes my good friends Dave Marcus from McAfee and Marc Maifrett from eEye Digital Security. Here’s a partial glimpse at the schedule, which doesn’t account for McConnell’s addition to the lineup:
