A look at why DTCC deployed identity and access management software from Hitachi ID Systems to automate its password management processes.

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corp. (DTCC) is a data processing business that handles the secure transfer of securities ownership and settlement of trillions of dollars in trade obligations each day.

DTCC is always looking for ways to streamline customer service, to keep costs down and at the same time enhance the level of security needed for an organization that plays a vital role in the financial marketplace. To that end, the company has deployed identity and access management software from Hitachi ID Systems to automate its password management processes.

Prior to the implementation, DTCC was experiencing a high volume of password management calls to its IT help desk from more than 3,800 internal and 80,000 customer users.

“We wanted an online, automated way to reset passwords, versus manual call center resets,” says Adam Bryan, managing director at DTCC.

The firm considered a number of products based on market research into available technologies, and selected Hitachi ID Systems ID Password Manager. The system is designed to help organizations manage passwords and other authentication factors more effectively.

Since deploying the product, DTCC has seen a reduction of more than 25 percent in password reset calls to its internal and external IT help desks. This has allowed the firm to reassign four of 12 support staff to other, more productive customer service functions.

The firm also considers itself more secure. “Whenever we eliminate [manual processes] or allow client self service, we reduce our security exposure and risks,” Bryan says.
