Qantas may be flying high following its proposed A$11 billion (US$8.6 billion) takeover by Macquarie Bank and Texas Pacific Group Ventures, but faulty server hardware on its website has ensured it has come crashing down to reality.Customers experienced trouble and received server errors when accessing the www.qantas.com.au site late Thursday night. This was followed by a temporary page, albeit with limited functionality; customers were able to make domestic and international bookings but not packages, car hire or accommodation.According to a Qantas spokesman, the site has experienced “internal technical issues.” He said this was due to malfunctioning firewalls. He did not elaborate any further, but said at 12:30 AEST that the site was slowly coming back up to full capacity. He ruled out a denial-of-service attack. The website of Qantas’s low-cost subsidiary, JetStar Airways, was fully operational. -Howard Dahdah, Computerworld Australia Related content news UK government plans 2,500 new tech recruits by 2025 with focus on cybersecurity New apprenticeships and talent programmes will support recruitment for in-demand roles such as cybersecurity technologists and software developers By Michael Hill Sep 29, 2023 4 mins Education Industry Education Industry Education Industry news UK data regulator orders end to spreadsheet FOI requests after serious data breaches The Information Commissioner’s Office says alternative approaches should be used to publish freedom of information data to mitigate risks to personal information By Michael Hill Sep 29, 2023 3 mins Government Cybercrime Data and Information Security feature Cybersecurity startups to watch for in 2023 These startups are jumping in where most established security vendors have yet to go.
