Microsoft Scrambles to Fix Flaw

Security experts are advising Windows users to install an unofficial patch to fix an upgraded security flaw, but Microsoft wants users to hold off until the official security update comes out next week. A news brief on TheRegister.com reports that vulnerability exists in computers running Microsoft Windows XP (SP1 and SP2) and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and stems from a flaw in a utility used to view picture and fax files. The IDG News Service also reports that the number of users potentially at risk is high, but the number affected so far is relatively low. Read more.
