Six months after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita battered the Gulf Coast, half of CSOs surveyed said disaster recovery is a priority for this year.

Six months after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita battered the Gulf Coast, half of CSOs surveyed said disaster recovery is a priority for this year. Other top issues centered around justifying security spending, ensuring security functions align with business goals and complying with government rules.

The top priorities for CSOs in 2006 were:

1. Assuring business continuity, business resiliency and disaster recovery 50%

2. Enforcing security policy 47%

3. Aligning security strategy with business goals 43%

4. Improving the effectiveness of security 43%

5. Training and educating employees about security policies and procedures 43%

6. Enforcing compliance to security policy and government regulations 39%

7. Validating risk assessment process and identifying new risks 31%

8. Defining, measuring, communicating and justifying effectiveness of security programs 30%
