A man who threw a suspicious package on the White House’s North Lawn on Wednesday morning is being detained for questioning, the Associated Press reports via CNN.com.

Tom Mazur, a Secret Service spokesman, told the AP, “This individual has done a similar act in the past and he is in custody.”

Officials first noticed the package just after President Bush left the White House via helicopter for a trip to Wheeling, W. Va., and a remote controlled “robot” was used to inspect the suspicious parcel, according to the AP.

The White House was secured by the Secret Service, and its internal threat level was raised by one notch while the investigation took place, the AP reports.

Members of the press were instructed to stay inside a briefing room while investigators assessed the package, according to the AP.
