Early Friday morning, explosives experts in South El Monte, Calif., an eastern Los Angeles suburb, defused an improved explosive device (IED) discovered in the backseat of a car that was pulled over for a speeding violation, the Associated Press reports via FOXNews.com.A number of industrial businesses in the area were temporarily shut down, and a main street was closed to traffic for three hours while the bomb was safely defused, according to the AP.LA County Sheriff’s Sgt. Don Manumaleuna told the AP that shortly after the driver was pulled over for a speeding infraction around 5 a.m., police “observed a package in the rear of the vehicle with wires coming out of it.”The identity of the driver has not yet been released, and he is being held for further questioning, according to the AP.
