Supreme Court Rules File-Sharing Networks Can Be Held Liable

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously today that Internetfile-sharing services could be held responsible for encouraging usersto trade copyrighted material. The New York Timesreports that the case pitted the entertainment industry againsttechnology companies in a battle over the balance between protectingcopyrights and fostering innovation. Companies like Grokster andStreamCast can be held accountable if they promote the use ofdistribution or take steps to foster copyright infringement. Read more.
