Terrorists, criminals and illegal immigrants can get a U.S. passportfairly easily because of an oversight and a “lack of aggression” by the StateDepartment. The New York Times reports that the fault was found during an audit by the Government Accountability Office that failed to tag morethan 30 fugitives, including one person on the FBI’s most-wanted list. The articlealso states that the State Department too often fails to aggressively pursueleads that could apprehend black-market sellers of fake identificationdocuments needed to get a fraudulent passport.
