The Federal Emergency Management Agency could learn a thing or two from Wal-Mart Stores. The Wall Street Journalreports that Jason Jackson, the retailer’s director of businesscontinuity, hunkered down and started preparing for Katrina when shewas just a tropical storm off the coast of Florida. When the computersystem went down, he worked by phone to keep supplies in stock as wellas oversee the transfer of emergency power supplies and equipment tostores that were affected by the hurricane. Wal-Mart frequently beatFEMA by days in getting trucks filled with emergency supplies to reliefworkers and citizens whose lives were upended by the storm. Read more.
