Security Concerns Over Internet Satellite Imagery

Some Asian governments have expressed concern about satellite images that can be easily accessed from the Internet. A Reuters article on Computerworldreports that Thailand and South Korea were the most vocal critics ofthe search tool today, rounding on providers like Google Inc., whichruns the Web site www.earth.google.com, and demanding action fromWashington. Satellite images provided by Google have been widely usedby broadcasters to show the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina. Aspokeswoman for Google declined to comment. Read more.
