Arkansas ham radio operators are monitoring transmissions from areasravaged by Hurricane Katrina, sometimes chiming in to aid incommunication. An Associated Press article on Boston.comreports that after the hurricane knocked over cell phone towers andutility lines, ham radio was the only way to communicate. Ham radiooperators helped communications between Louisiana hospitals needinghelp and Arkansas aid workers who were unable to get in touch withthem. Read more.
