Marriott Discloses Missing Data Files

Marriot International’s time-share division said yesterday that it is missing computer backup tapes with credit card account information and Social Security numbers of roughly 206,000 customers and time-share owners. The Washington Post reports that information on employees is also missing and that it’s not clear whether the tapes, missing since mid-November, were stolen or lost.

Officials Marriot Vacation Club International said that an internal investigation did not provide an answer on what happened. The company has notified the Secret Service, credit card companies and other financial institutions about the loss of the tapes. Read more.
