IBM Works Toward Replacable Biometrics

An IBM research team claims to have solved a major security problem inthe area of cancelable biometrics. An IDG News Service article on Infoworldreports that IBM is developing software that will transform biometricdata such as fingerprints into distorted models that preserve enoughactual ID markers to make the distortion repeatable. The software willconstruct a kind of technological screen separating a user’s actualbiological ID information from the records stored in profile databases.If the database is then hacked, the hacker only has information fromthe company’s profile, not the actual fingerprint.
