As Universal Pictures plans to release its remake of King Kong shortly before the holidays, it may fall victim to film pirates. The New York Timesreports that while Hollywood has battled film looting for years, piracyin the digital age is more lucrative, sophisticated and elusive thanever. It also poses a bigger financial threat. Director Peter Jacksontold the Times that “Piracy has the very real potential of tippingmovies into becoming an unprofitable industry, especially big-eventfilms. If that happens, they will stop being made.” On the Internet,piracy has virtually no boundaries.
