A variety of worms that exploit a Windows vulnerability are beginning to spread worldwide. Techworldreports that a number of media outlets, including the Cable NewsNetwork (CNN) have been affected and that the worms could reachcritical mass. In a worse-case scenario, the worms could spread as fastas Code Red or Nimda, but it’s not clear what worms are involved in thecurrent attacks and what effect they will have. The worms are spreadingusing the TCP/IP port 445, associated with Windows file sharing, andthe attacks seem to involve variants of the Zotob worm or the Rbotworm. Read more.
