Companies are holding off on becoming early adopters of MicrosoftCorp.’s Windows x64 Edition operating systems because some securityapplications won’t work on it yet. Changes to the core, kernelcomponent of Windows will require some software to be rewritten for the64-bit version of the operating system. Computerworldreports that applications like McAfee’s Security Suite and TrendMicro’s PC-cillin Internet Security won’t be sufficiently updated until2006. However, Symantec currently support x64 Windows, but only fortheir corporate software. Symantec representatives were not able to saywhether they would plan for a 64 bit version of its software for smallbusiness and home users. Read more.
