Pentagon to Share Intelligence With Civilian Agencies

The Pentagon will begin sharing valuable intelligence with civilianagencies in a new strategy it has put forward to expand its role in homelanddefense. The Washington Post reports that in addition to physical security, themilitary will implement a more layered defense to deal with single terroriststrikes as well as multiple attacks with mass casualties. While the 40-page plandoes not ask for new legal authority for the military on U.S. soil, arole that is carefully constrained, it does increase the chances that theactive military will deploy if civilian and National Guard forces areoverwhelmed, as well as stress that the primary responsibility for domesticsecurity rests with civilian agencies.
