A University of Southern California database, with about 270,000records of past applicants including their names and Social Securitynumbers, was hacked last month. A Reuters article on Computerworldreports that the breach of the online application database exposed”dozens” of records, according to Katharine Harrington, USC’s dean ofadmissions and financial aid. She could not be more specific about thenumbers involved, but was confident there was no mass downloading ofdata. The university was not able to identify which records may havebeen exposed, however once security measures are taken, the site willbe back online. Read more.
