Mad Cow Not Really Mad

The Department of Agriculture has restested beef that had appeared to carry mad cow disease and the new tests have proved negative, according to a story in the Washington Post.

The Post predicts that the news is certain to relieve workers in the beef industry, which is still recovering after the discovery of the first U.S. case of mad cow disease, in an animal that came originally from Canada.

White House Claims Desire to Save Intelligence Bill

The White House said on Tuesday that it hoped to seek a compromise on a failed bill to overhaul U.S. intelligence agencies, according to a story in the New York Times. The Times reports that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who was rumored to have lobbied quietly against the bill, denied that he did so.
