Howard Schmidt, the former chief security officer of Microsoft and head of the Federal Infrastructure Protection Board, has joined Ebay as vice president of security.Schmidt resigned from government service two weeks ago. Prior to his departure, he played an important role in drafting national cybersecurity strategy and building federal ties with the private sector to protect the nation’s information systems from attack.Ebay is not releasing details of Schmidt’s responsibilities at his new job, but he joins the online retailer at a time when auction fraud and scams are at very high levels.
