Gary Underwood has been named to the position of Chief Computer Security Officer for the state of Arkansas, effective December 9.

Underwood, the former director of media operations for Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, will also serve as deputy CIO, as well as chief fiscal and operating officer for the state IT department.

According to state CIO Carolyn Walton, Underwood has been in charge of security, technology and computer operations for the governor’s office since he began working for Huckabee in July, 1996.

Underwood fills the position vacated by former CISO Mike Miller, who left the job in June along with former state CIO Randall Bradford, over security issues surrounding Arkansas’ $57 million computer accounting system.
