Gomeet Pant has been appointed as vice president and head of infosec services at ABB’s Global Business Service – Information Systems (GBS IS).

Pant, who had recently been appointed as CISO and head of IT operations at Vedanta Zinc International, moved to ABB in April 2021 to take on his global role. ABB’s GBS-IS provides IT services to over 90 countries in which ABB has a presence.

Pant told CSO Online that he will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of information security services and expectations from across the globe.

In his previous role, Pant headed cybersecurity at Cairn Oil and Gas – a vertical of the Vedanta group. His stint at Vedanta started in 2013, when he joined the firm as Group Lead – IT Security and Compliance. In 2018, he was promoted to the role of a senior manager in the same unit.

In 2020, he was appointed CISO and head of IT operations and cybersecurity at South Africa-based Vedanta Zinc International, and therefore played a dual role in the organization.

As CISO, he was charged with improving cybersecurity practices and establishing an agile security function that catered to evolving business needs. As the head of IT operations, he was responsible for transforming the firm’s existing IT infrastructure to accommodate digital transformation initiatives.

When asked about his new role and challenges that lay ahead, Pant said, “ABB is an organization with a heavy global presence, and protecting such an organization brings a unique set of challenges. What makes the role even more interesting is the diverse business lines and globally spread teams that support information security services.”
