As a security pro, you're well aware of the magnitude of the ransomware problem. But did you know that, according to a November 2015 study from antivirus vendor Bitdefender, "half of victims are willing to pay up to $500 to recover their data."

What's more, the data those victims (your users) are most eager to recover is personal. "Some 30 percent would pay to recover personal documents and 25 percent for photos, while only 18 percent would pay to recover job-related documents," according to the Bitdefender study.

And the problem is only getting worse because it is so profitable for criminals. A report released in June 2016 by anti-phishing vendor PhishMe found that "as of the end of March, 93 percent of all phishing emails contained encryption ransomware."
