Marketing automation software vendor Marketo announced this week that it has hired security industry veteran Jason Hoffman as its first Chief Security Officer (CSO).

"His excellence and leadership in effectively managing the security of our corporate data, our customers’ data, and our facilities is vital for Marketo’s long-term success," said Phil Fernandez, chairman and CEO of Marketo.

Hoffman has more than 25 years of experience in the information technology, security, and risk management fields. He most recently served as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for [24]7, a customer engagement cloud company. Before that he was Head of Group Security, CISO at Autonomy (now HP Software). Hoffman has also held security leadership positions at Kaiser Permanente, VeriSign (now Symantec), and Greater Bay Bank (now Wells Fargo Bank.)

In his new role, Hoffman will lead Marketo’s Enterprise Security Organization, responsible for all facets of security that cover Marketo’s platform, products, IT, and physical security. He will also be responsible for managing Marketo’s comprehensive enterprise information security and IT risk management program that is designed to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of information that is owned, controlled, or processed by Marketo.

“Security threats are growing more complex each day, and when you’ve led security organizations at financial services and healthcare companies as well as service providers that support these verticals, the security bar is understandably high,” said Jason Hoffman, chief security officer of Marketo. “I am delighted to bring that experience to Marketo, a company that truly values the security and privacy of its customers’ data and has strong executive commitment to security and risk management.”

Hoffman graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Legal Studies and has earned certifications in the security and audit fields, including CISM, CISSP, CISA, and CIA.
