BSides San Francisco 2014

This year there has been a lot of talk about speakers boycotting RSA 2014. Not much has been discussed about whether or not attendees will be staying away however. Whatever you happen to decide you should remember that BSides San Francisco will be running the very same week. It's being held at the DNA Lounge on Sunday Feb 23rd and Monday Feb 24th.

I highly recommend you check it out.

This year there won't be a charge to attend BSides San Francisco.

Yup, you heard that correctly. FREE! The only thing to keep in mind is that once they reach capacity they will have cap the numbers. But, DNA Lounge is a large establlishment so, you shouldn't have trouble. That being said, be sure to show up early to catch the great talks.

Speaking of which, the CFP is now closed and this year there were 58 talks submitted! Of course this number will be distilled down to accommodate the open slots but, you can rest assured that there will be some great content.

You might ask yourself, how can I get involved? Well, as BSidesSF runs on volunteer power so you're in luck. There is an open call for volunteers and you can sign up with this link. This is a great way to become more involved with the security community.

Most importantly, BSidesSF needs sponsors to put this conference on. Otherwise it wouldn't be free. If you're looking to sponsor the event you can get the sponsor kit here(nudge, nudge)

It is very important to note that changes are afoot after BSidesSF 2014.

From the BSidesSF website:

2014 is a transition year for Security BSides San Francisco.  If you would like to lead or participate in organizing BSides San Francisco 2015 please volunteer to help with this year's event to see what's involved in making an event happen.

This is a great opportunity to get involved. If you're in San Francisco this February, be sure to check out BSidesSF this year.
