Windows Attacks Beginning to Spread

A variety of worms that exploit a Windows vulnerability are beginning to spread worldwide. Techworld reports that a number of media outlets, including the Cable News Network (CNN) have been affected and that the worms could reach critical mass. In a worse-case scenario, the worms could spread as fast as Code Red or Nimda, but it’s not clear what worms are involved in the current attacks and what effect they will have. The worms are spreading using the TCP/IP port 445, associated with Windows file sharing, and the attacks seem to involve variants of the Zotob worm or the Rbot worm. Read more.
