Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge announced the appointment of Jack L. Johnson of Virginia to serve as the CSO at the Department of Homeland Security. Johnson has served at the department in this capacity as a detailee since January 2003. Prior to his assignment to the DHS, Johnson was in his 20th year with the U.S. Secret Service, where he served in various positions including special agent in charge and deputy assistant director.

The U.S. Treasury Department signed a $2 million contract to help launch the "next generation" Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC). The center will now serve the entire financial services sector by providing a technology platform for the confidential exchange of information on physical and cyberthreats. The $2 million will also be used to upgrade the technological infrastructure of the FS-ISAC.

Former U.S. Navy Rear Adm. David Stone is the new acting administrator for the DHS's Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Stone will replace James Loy, who will remain in the TSA as deputy secretary.

Eight airports have been awarded $7.8 million in grants for airport terminal security enhancements. The airports are T.F. Green Airport in Rhode Island, Newark International Airport in New Jersey, Helena Regional Airport in Montana, Boston's Logan International Airport, Pittsburgh International Airport, Chicago's Midway International Airport, Denver International Airport and Key West International Airport in Florida. The TSA anticipates awarding additional grants in the next few weeks for a total of $17 million.
