Global Risks to Business in 2009

Global business will face serious risks and challenges in 2009 as the effects of the financial crisis are felt around the world and many countries struggle to stay stable. Food and power shortages will become unavoidable in certain countries. Kidnapping and piracy, which have been successful techniques for criminals in some countries, will catch on. The crimes will become more popular in other parts of the world as copy cats take note and try it in their own get rich schemes.

Scarcity: A major risk factor for global business in 2009

This graph illustrates the tremendous volatility and major price drops among key commodities in 2008. The report suggests this volatility means the world is testing its current limits for food production. This sudden decline in commodity prices is likely just temporary, according to Linsker. While, the financial crisis has lifted pressure on commodities, when the global economy starts speaking up again, he predicts scarcity will be one of the main strategic challenges for business going forward.
