Inside a Global SOC
By Joan Goodchild
CSO recently toured a global security operations center. A front line in the war against hacking, network attacks and security breach, the SOC is part of security-products provider Symantec's managed security services for enterprise clients.

Inside the SOC, teams of analysts monitor clients' networks for malicious activity, analyze the data and then alert customers if they need to take action to prevent an attack or security breach. The SOC is one of four run by Symantec. Together they receive more than 2 billion security alerts daily. In this slideshow, a closeup look at this process in the SOC in Alexandria, Virginia.

A row of servers inside the SOC is kept tightly locked. Symantec stores and analyzes log data to compile a bi-annual internet security threat and trend report.
