Inside a Global SOC
By Joan Goodchild
CSO recently toured a global security operations center. A front line in the war against hacking, network attacks and security breach, the SOC is part of security-products provider Symantec's managed security services for enterprise clients.

Inside the SOC, teams of analysts monitor clients' networks for malicious activity, analyze the data and then alert customers if they need to take action to prevent an attack or security breach. The SOC is one of four run by Symantec. Together they receive more than 2 billion security alerts daily. In this slideshow, a closeup look at this process in the SOC in Alexandria, Virginia.

The Man Trap

Of Symantec's 17,000 employees, only 200 have access privileges to go inside the SOCs. Pictured here is the mantrap. After passing through a door secured by a biometric and badge-reader system, visitors must also pass through this second zone of security before entering the center.
