It's been four years since the ChoicePoint security breach brought the evils of data theft to the public's attention. The recent breach at Heartland Payment Systems reflects a lack of progress on the data loss prevention front in that time period. Here are some of the bigger breaches of the last few years.

February 2005

ChoicePoint says conmen stole personal financial records of more than 163,000 consumers by setting up fake business requests.
