Citrix invaded Orlando this week for its annual Citrix Synergy event. Company executives are outlining the vision for the future and unveiling new products and services designed to work toward that future. One new tool shared by Citrix this week is Workspace Cloud.
Citrix Workspace itself isn’t new. The Citrix Workspace Suite offers customers a collection of tools and services that enable employees to access and work with company apps and data securely from PCs and mobile devices. Workspace lets users access apps, data and services over any network and from virtually any device. What sets the new Workspace Cloud platform apart is that Citrix is now offering to take the management and maintenance of the Workspace backend and deliver it from the cloud.
Workspace includes a comprehensive suite of tools and applications. Citrix wants to give customers the ability to embrace mobility and BYOD (bring your own device) without compromising on performance or security. The Workspace apps give users the ability to work effectively and efficiently from anywhere while also enabling the organization to maintain visibility and control over company resources.
Workspace Cloud provides the same features and benefits of the Workspace Suite but lets customers focus on the apps and services delivered through Workspace rather than on implementing and maintaining Workspace itself. Citrix handles the back end so Workspace is always current with the latest updates and technologies.
An added benefit of Workspace Cloud is that it can manage multiple Workspace environments from a single management control plane. Admins can monitor and maintain multiple Workspace services through Workspace Cloud and they can access it from virtually anywhere because the admin console is cloud-based.
Customers don’t have to choose between on-premise and cloud, though. Citrix claims that Workspace Cloud can be incorporated along with other platforms and implementations to provide a custom hybrid system that meets unique customer needs.
“Citrix has built Workspace Cloud to empower you to choose the best infrastructure location- data center, public cloud, or hybrid cloud,” explained Joe Vaccaro in a blog post. “Mix and match deployments based on local requirements, compliance regulations, budgets or user demand. Separating the management from the workspace deployment gives you the ultimate control over the performance, price, and security of your workspaces.”
