Background Checks: What Lies Beneath
Background checks regarding job applicants were up 16% in 2004
November 01, 2005 — CSO — Employers conducted nearly 4.4 million background checks in 2004, up 16% from almost 3.8 million conducted in 2003.
The number of background checks conducted in 2004 is also more than three times the number conducted just eight years ago.
Of criminal records checked,
5% revealed an infraction.
50% of employment, credential and education checks uncovered discrepancies in information applicants provided employers.
29% of applicants had at least one violation on their driving records, and
45% of the credit records checked revealed a
bankruptcy, judgment, lien or report to a collection agency.
