Logistics Know-How Aids Disaster Relief

Delivery experts bring supply chain technology to Kashmir

Natural disasters tax government and international relief groups like the United Nations, so private sector experts are stepping in to get supplies to remote areas like earthquake-ravaged Kashmir, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The Journal points out that the United Nations helps companies like DHL get quick government approval to do this work, and adds "the delivery companies also benefit because they often have long-term business interest in the efficiency of transit hubs in disater areas and the speed of their recovery."  In other words, lives saved today means more potential customers tomorrow.
