Four years after the collapse of Enron, Sherron S. Watkins, the corporate whistleblower and former Vice President of Enron, spoke at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary last week for a program on ethics. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that she now runs a consulting firm, Sherron Watkins and Co, that advises companies on corporate ethics and cultivating an ethical work culture. Her main message during her speech was that written codes of ethics are not enough to prevent unethical behavior. She also said that even Sarbanes-Oxley, the new law requiring chief executive officers to sign off on their company’s financial statements and provide transparency to their operations, isn’t enough.
